In the early Spring of 2005, The Astoria's swimming pool stands ready for Opening Day on the Saturday before Memorial Day. The Clubhouse is visible at the far end of the pool, with the back of the west wing of The Astoria standing behind it. The green canopy in front of the Clubhouse provides shade for the lifeguard and others, and also serves (once the curtain walls are installed) as a great storage area for the pool furniture in the Winter. The pool is open Noon - 9 PM every weekday, and 10 AM - 8 PM every weekend and Holiday thru Labor Day,as well as the two following weekends.

Continental Pools has successfully managed The Astoria's swimming pool since 2001.

The Astoria's tennis court surface was replaced in early 2006 by Bishops Tennis, using the Classic Turf System. Residents have been very pleased with the results.

The tennis court is open from Dawn to Dusk, 365 days a year, except when wet (a warranty requirement). There are no lights or backboards, to avoid disturbing adjacent units.

Residents can reserve court time here or by signing up in the Library. Currently, reservations in the Library take precedence over online reservations, so keep that in mind.

The only footwear permitted on the court is white soft-soled shoes. Any other footwear, or the use of the court for any activity other  than tennis, is prohibited.

The Astoria's Library is generally available to residents, unless it has been reserved for a resident or community function.

Board and Committee meetings are generally held in the Library. It's also often used for informal meetings (especially by the Management Office, just across the hall) or a place to relax and peruse some slightly outdated magazines.

Residents  can reserve the Library here. All reservations are maintained by the Community Manager, so online and verbal requests are given equal weight.

Resident reservations require a deposit of $200.

The Astoria's Clubhouse, behind the building at the pool, is also generally available to residents, unless reserved for a specific event. Resident reservations require a deposit of $200.

Pool parties are the standard event, but informal gatherings are the most common use. A full kitchen, television, plenty of seating, and game tables are among the fixtures available for your use. The Picnic Area and Pool are just outside the double doors.

You can reserve the Clubhouse here. If it's not reserved, just get your friends and neighbors together and make your own event.

The Astoria's Exercise Room is located in the Clubhouse. It's available to residents 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

It includes a Bodybuilder weight machine, free weights, 2 Landice treadmills, a Lifecycle,  and the sauna.

The exercise room is not monitored. Residents are urged to use their judgement and not over-exert themselves, and advise others if they have any personal health concerns that might warrant monitoring by others.

A complete renovation is scheduled for 2007. Residents are looking forward to a new look and upgraded equipment. A monitoring system may be included in the renovation.

The Astoria's Picnic Area is located outside the Clubhouse, next to the pool. The area is available to all residents on a first come. first served basis, unless it has been reserved for a resident or community event, in conjunction with a Clubhouse event.

It's a big plus for pool parties. The gas grill and two large picnic tables serve small groups without difficulty.

The concrete retaining wall and railing in the rear separates The Astoria from it's neighbor up the hill.

Chelsea Landing is a town home community. Their residents are permitted to use The Astoria's pool, for a fee.

The Astoria's Metro Access begins when you walk up these steps at the rear of the property. An Arlington County bike path, at the top of the stairs, leads to a left on Uhle Street, a right on Key Boulevard, a left on Veitch Street, and a left on Wilson Boulevard to the Arlington Courthouse Metro station. It's about 3 blocks. Residents report a walk time of 7minutes from the top of the stairs to the Metro entrance.

The Rosslyn Metro station is about a 15 minute walk, just 7 blocks away. Go out the front of the building, turn right on Lee Highway, then left on Fort Myer Drive.

For information on coming to The Astoria via Metro, please see Directions

The Astoria's Management Aides are generally at their desk in the lobby when they are not performing their designated rounds throughout the property.

Their other duties include rules enforcement (particularly parking), reporting general maintenance problems to building management, and responding to resident concerns. They carry a cellular phone for the latter purpose.

The Aides are on duty any time the office is closed, barring unforeseen circumstances. The weekend day shifts are covered by a contractor. All other shifts are covered by Astoria personnel with years of experience at this position. We trust you will find them helpful.

The Astoria's Garden Plaza is located at the southeast corner of the property. The plaza is located above the parking garage, and is the largest open area on the property.

It's a great place for lawn games when the mood strikes. The Astoria provides the games. You provide the players.

Otherwise, just take a seat at a bench, soak up the sun, and relax at the garden. It's our quiet little spot in the hustle and bustle around us.

This is not a spot for pets. Pet areas are carefully designated, and this is not one of them.

This view of The Astoria's Lobby is from the perspective of a visitor entering the building.

The lobby is highlighted by hardwood flooring, brass railings, glass panels, mirrored columns, and two levels.

The two seating areas are on each side of the lower level. The upper level leads to the hallways on each side, and the Office and Library off the upper level, beyond. Just out of sight is the rear lobby entrance, leading to the clubhouse, pool, and tennis court.

The lobby is scheduled for a complete renovation in late 2007.
